This invitation has been sent by the Community Rail partnership, and is extended to all in the village.
As you know we’ve been working for some time on new maps to be sited at 5 stations on the North Downs Line which will point visitors to the North Downs Way. These maps show the local area, attractions and sites near to the station and the full route of the North Downs Way, highlighting the Surrey Hills AONB.
To celebrate the unveiling of the new signs and maps, I will be leading a walk of about 6km on Wednesday 31st October, from Shalford station to Chilworth station via footpaths and bridleways along the North Downs Way. We’ll visit St Martha’s Church, Chilworth Manor and the Gunpowder Mills on our way. Leaving Shalford at 1pm, arriving in Chilworth at 3pm for a snack at the Percy Arms.
The official unveiling by Mike Goodman of Surrey CC (Chair of the North Downs Line Community Rail Partnership) will take place at Chilworth Station around 3.30.
I would be delighted to see you on the walk or at Chilworth for the official bit.
The signs will be sited at Shalford, Chilworth, Gomshall, Dorking Deepdene (both sides) and Betchworth.
Please let me know in advance if you are able to attend any or all of the parts of the afternoon.
